Johnny “Football” Manziel (6-1 200 Fr) led the Texas A&M Aggies (8-2) to an improbable 29-24 victory over the number one ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (9-1). The performance by Manziel on Saturday and his cumulative stats for the season will vault him into the upper echelon of the Heisman Trophy discussion. The Aggies should also jump up considerably in the week 12 BCS Standings from 15th to at least the top 10 and have an outside chance of landing in the top five

According to ESPN, Manziel is the first freshman quarterback ever to win on the road against a number one team. He makes incredible throws, short and deep, with near perfect placement. And that is not even his best talent. Johnny Football is the most evasive player in college football (see video below). He finished with 345 total yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions against Alabama. Manziel is also the leading rusher in the defense talent heavy SEC

Post game, Alabama coach Nick Saban talked about Manziel's ability during broken plays, "That’s the kind of player he is. The players have to know that they have to contain him, that he is going to scramble and that he is very elusive. He is instinctive in the pocket, and he’s also fast." (RollTide.com)

Kansas State QB Collin Klein has led the Heisman race in recent weeks and I was on the Klein train earlier than many others this season, but I am now considering Manziel as my frontrunner. Simply put, the Texas A&M quarterback is the most outstanding player that I have watched in college football this season and fits the description of a Heisman Trophy winner.

Unfortunately, I do not have an official Heisman ballot, but I vote in the less talked about Maxwell Award for College Player of the Year and can nominate players for the FWAA All-America Team. Right now, it is coming down to the wire between Klein and Manziel, but Oregon RB Kenjon Barner still has an outside chance.

Dubbed Johnny Football by Aggie fans, Manziel is a fun player to watch and will probably be playing college football for a while since he is just a redshirt freshman. We have to wonder if he could be the first freshman ever to win the highly coveted Heisman Trophy? Either way, Heisman winner or not, now we know why they call him Johnny Football.

You're right it was not just Manziel, A&M fustrated Bama from start to finish. Whether it was Johnny or the the defense making plays they just dominated Bama.

The 2012 Heisman winner and deservedly so, will have a full plate tonight against the Sooners.

After Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater's oustanding game against what was perceived to be a great SEC defense in Florida at the Sugar Bowl, his name has to be at the top of the 2013 list. Manziel has his work cut out for him if he hopes to be the second Heisman winner behind Ohio State's Archie Griffin.

I hope Bridgewater's comments after the Sugar Bowl will be used by Manziel tonight---where he said he studied how Florida's opposing QBs (which Manziel was one) had forced themselves into hurried errors, etc. instead of allowing the game to come to them. Very good advice and something that the Aggie OC and Manziel would do well to consider.

So beginning tonight, its game on for the 2013 Heisman and may the best one prevail. Go Texas A&M and go Sooners of the Big 12. As a die hard Longhorn fan, its UT 1st and state of Texas players 1st, so A&M v OU is Texas south v Texas north. I predict it'll be contact city for 60 minutes and I cannot wait until kick off. Hook 'em.
