Some of the recent changes in the coaching carousel have been somewhat of a surprise. There were not many pundits that expected former Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville to leave for Cincinnati at the same position.

He was asked what his initial reaction was to the phone call from Cincinnati athletic director Whit Babcock.
Tuberville said, "You can tell I’m not from the state of Ohio with my accent, but I’m learning. It can be very quick... I had a great home. Lubbock, Texas and the people of west Texas are great people; they love football. Our football team played hard. Our staff did a great job of coaching. But there was something when Whit called that I thought, ‘You know, let me think about this.'" (gobearcats.com)
After fired at Arkansas due to a scandal and spending a season off, Bobby Petrino has made his way back into college football as a head coach for Western Kentucky. Petrino was too risky for a hire at top tier programs, but a good grab for a Sun Belt team. If he does have success early on for the Hilltoppers, expect Bobby to roll out of Bowling Green, KY to either the SEC or another high caliber opening.
"I have basically spent the last eight months working with my family, trying to make things right with my wife Becky and with my children," Petrino said. "We've been in counseling and I have learned a lot about myself. I'm really excited about this opportunity. I didn't know if I would get it or if I wouldn't." (USA Today)

ESPN anchor Stan Verett reported on Sportscenter that “four former Auburn football players say they received cash  from boosters from a number of schools on an HBO special scheduled to air Wednesday night thats according to a website SportsbyBrooks.com.” It looks like more evidence of a pay for play system in college football is coming out in the public. Check the story out on Sports by Brooks. It sounds juicy.

Fiesta Bowl fired CEO John Junker and the BCS is questioning their worthiness as a BCS bowl. Money under the nonprofit organization was spent on things ranging from political contributions to partying. So basically Junker spent a bunch of money on Junk and the Fiesta Bowl funded Fiestas. I’m sure it’s coincidental that this revelation happens while the Cotton Bowl is pushing for a BCS upgrade. Not saying people should get by with these types of actions, but there may be more bowl money swindlers out there other than BCS competitors of Jerry Jones.

It has been reported that Ralph Nader wants to remove college athletic scholarships. I couldn’t care less about Nader’s attempt to be involved in college athletics, but I hope that no one buys into his junk. College sports needs to get things under control before someone with a nutty idea comes in and totally screws up the system even worse than it already is.

The murderer of Uconn player Jasper Howard was sentenced to 18 years in prison. I don’t know what else to say about the tragedy other than I recommend people to try to stay out of bad situations at all cost and walk away from altercations. I pray that the Howard family and friends are now able to move on now without too much more pain from the horrible incident and that the good memories of Jasper will always be with them.

Now on a lighter note to wrap up this rundown, Texas Tech just had their spring game on March 26. Starting quarterback front runner, Seth Doege, led the spring game with 317 passing yards and the team says they have a good stable of running backs. However, Coach Tuberville doesn’t seem very confident of his defense and says they are still “confused”. Watch the Youtube videos posted below on the Texas Tech spring game.

That’s it for this rundown. With all the spring games and the NFL Draft happening in April, there will be more blogs to come. Check back soon!
